Question: How do I use a telephone auto-dialer to call my phone when the phone [mobile] does not work in my area?

Answer: Several farms that we service have no mobile reception in their general location, let alone a reliable reception that they could base their farms alarm notification on.

As the standard required by the integrators and chicken processors, means that they HAVE to have an alarm system that will dial out to either a third party or to the farmers mobile to allow the alarm to be attended. Generally with the tunnel shedding that is employed now there is only a very short window of opportunity to 'fix' a problem before loss of stock can occur.

One answer that we have come up with is to install a Local Area Pager System.

This unit basically is a radio transmitter attached to the alarm system that transmits a pre-set message to the farmer's pager unit that he carries on the belt or in a pocket.

This pager notification displays where the alarm is and therefore the operator can get to the fault quickly and efficiently.

The transmitter is a 5 watt unit and generally has a range of around 5 to 15klm depending on the ground layout.

Although the dialer system is still preferred, most of our customers now rely on the pager system and have the phone dialer as a back up system or use it when they leave the farm.

Also available for alarms is the SMS service. Several companies offer the SMS as a back up alarm. However we have found from several people who rely on this service that in times where the telephone networks are connected, SMS messages can be cached up to 30 minutes it unreliable for quick notification.
